Rashad Evans-Living up to the Hype

 Written by Jake Nelson

I seem to be the only one who’s seen both the Ultimate Fighter season 10, and the Rampage VS Evans Primetime show.  All Rashad kept saying on TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) was that he was going to knock Rampage out.  He even said at one point on the show that he could fight Rampage with his style (Boxing) and still beat him.  So the question is, “Will he back up his words?  I honestly think no.  If you notice on the Rampage VS. Evans Primetime show, they’re basically only showing Rashad training his wrestling, they didn’t show him training any stand up essentially, and when he was sparring he would take the guy down.

I know they could be using editing, to make you think Rashad will take Rampage down.  Although I even saw in an interview with Ariel Helwani and Rashad, Rashad said he will take the fight wherever he needs to in order win.  Now that to me sounds like a take down.  As well as, recently he came out and said he started standing up with people to please the fans, and he said he has to get back to doing himself, which I believe is very much foreshadowing for him to take the fight to the ground.  Because doing “Himself is being a wrestler, he started out as a wrestler and the majority of his wins are based off of using his wrestling in fights.  He was known as a wrestler up until recently and it was labeled as one of his attributes.

I’m completely ok with fighters taking people down to win, but in Rashad’s case, I would be very disappointed if he took Rampage down.  I understand fighters do whatever they can to win, their careers are on the line, and a lot of money is at stake.  All I’m saying is, don’t run your mouth if you don’t back it up.  So in Rashad’s case, he needs to stand up with Rampage and knock him out in order to keep the respect of his fans.  Rashad talked so much about how he was going to knock Rampage out.  He never said, “Oh I’m gonna take you down and submit you”.  He said “I’m gonna knock you out”.  Rashad is still saying he’s going to knock Rampage out, but I believe he means Ground and Pound Knock out.  Which I think is very unfair.  When someone says “I’m going to knock you out”, they never mean, I’m going to take you down and knock you unconscious, they mean, “I’m going to throw punches with you, and one of us is going to sleep.”

So, Be Prepared For A Takedown!  Because I know from talking with people that 90 percent of the public believe this is going to be a stand up war, and with good reason.  Both fighters said they are going to knock each other out, which means that they are going to stand up.  Although Rashad is probably going to go for the takedown, he still plans on finishing Rampage and possibly “Knocking him out” on the ground, but he’s almost flat out admitted he won’t stand up the whole fight.  And if he does go for the takedown right away, he will have lost respect from one of his fans, because if there is one thing in this sport that no one agrees with, it’s talking, and not living up to the hype.
