Is the Iceman Era Over?

Written By:  Michael Hatamoto

MMA legend Chuck Liddell (21-8) still hasn't decided his future as a professional fighter, after most recently suffering a knockout loss to Rich Franklin.

Liddell recently noted.  "I thought I did great before I was caught. I have to look at it some more and think about it. I think I looked good and I definitely was in great shape. I could have kept that pace up for another four rounds, without a doubt.”

It's not really my place to say whether or not Liddell should retire, but I hope he's seriously considering retirement.  The days when Liddell racked up seven straight KO/TKO victories over a three-year span is long gone... and he has been finished three straight times against quality fighters.

I just think Liddell has lost a step in his standup game, while his chin has become highly suspect.  Franklin's counter shot brought on the beginning of the end for Liddell during UFC 115.  For a fighter whose specialty is keeping the fight on the feet, Liddell is unlikely to try to take an opponent down and work for ground and pound.

I'm doubtful Liddell could even be a gatekeeper in the UFC light heavyweight division -- and he shouldn't tarnish his image by trying.

Outside of MMA, Liddell has appeared in several TV shows, music videos, and a few different movies.  The aging fighter also appeared in Dancing with the Stars last year, and the appearance helped grow his fan base even further.
